"The Hunger Games" updates: Jennifer Lawrence officially cast as Katniss Everdeen, Hunter Parrish is added as Peeta Mellark contenders

After spending some weeks witnessing the 'cyber war' between Team Hailee, Team Kaya, Team Lyndsy, and some others supporting their favorite actress to become Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming movie adaptation of "The Hunger Games", it is now revealed that the ultimate role finally goes to the newest Hollywood 'it' actress Jennifer Lawrence! The Wrap reports that the "Winter's Bone" actress confirmed and approved the role on Wednesday as the deal closed.

Well I personally supported Hailee Steinfeld for this currently most wanted role, because she basically fits the physical description of Katniss Everdeen who is 16 (Lawrence is 20 already). But I love Lawrence as well, so, congratulations, Jen!

In the meantime, the search for Katniss' love interest Peeta Mellark is still on going. After Alex Pettyfer and Josh Hutcherson confirmed that they were indeed trying out and had talks with "The Hunger Games" producers, it is revealed that "Weeds" television star Hunter Parrish is also on the run for Peeta role. Lionsgate themselves said that they won't cast Peeta after they found the right Katniss, but now that Lawrence is up for the female lead, I think an official announcement will be published soon!

"The Hunger Games" is adapted by the best-selling book series by Suzanne Collins. It is the first book, followed by "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay", which will likely be made if the first feature is successful. The movie will be directed by Gary Ross and written by Billy Ray with March 23, 2012 release date.

Robin McLeavy is Abraham's Lincoln mother in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"

(This news might be late -- but it's better be than never, right? :D)

Australian actress Robin McLeavy has been officially cast as Abraham Lincoln's mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, in the upcoming horror flick "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter". She was initially trying out for Mary Todd role, but eventually it went to Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Although McLeavy's name is relatively new and unknown for most of us, seems like she has nailed her audition and attracted Timur Bekmambetov, the director, to hire her. McLeavy's role is rather small but pivotal. In the novel, Nancy Hanks Lincoln is killed by a supernatural creature, making Abraham fuels his passion to kill vampires and their slave-helpers.

Abraham Lincoln is played by Benjamin Walker, star of "Flags of our Fathers" and "The War Boys", while his wife Mary Todd Lincoln played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. "The Hurt Locker" and the now playing "The Adjustment Bureau" actor Anthony Mackie also stars as William Seward, as well as Dominic Cooper and Jimmi Simpson as Henry Sturgess and Joshua Speed respectively. This is the most recent cast list so far. Behind the scene, Bekmambetov is directing while Seth Grahame-Smith, the original novelist and the writer of upcoming Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's collaboration "Dark Shadows" makes the screenplay. Burton is also a producer for this movie along with Jim Lenley (who previously worked with Bekmambetov in "Wanted").

"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is scheduled to come to theatres on June 22, 2012.

Another superhero to get rebooted: "Daredevil"

Anyone of you is sick of hearing superhero reboot movies? Well, here's another one! "Daredevil" is announced to be remade, as the news has been rolling on the internet since last year. David Scarpa has been hired first to write the screenplay, and now Variety reports that "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" director David Slade will helm this project. Slade was initially hired to direct "The Wolverine", yet another spin-off story from X-Men's very own Wolverine. But eventually "Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky has been appointed to direct that feature and Slade was off the hook.

However, Variety also reports that this movie won't involve any material from the previous 2003 "Daredevil" version starring Ben Affleck as the leading man Matt Murdock aka Daredevil and Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios. The movie failed to top the box office chart, unfortunately, and 20th Century Fox had planned to make a sequel -- even though it wasn't actually implemented. So right now they decided to make a new project still with the same subject so they won't lose the rights of this film.

Latest new clips from animated movie "Rio" starring Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway

One of this year's animated movies to release, "Rio", recently shared its latest two clips from the movie. Starring Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg who lent his voice to Blu, the domesticated macaw, and Anne Hathaway as his love interest Jewel, it tells about an adventurous story in which Blu has to get out of his safety zone with a help of 'the bird of his dream', Jewel. Blu has been living in Minessota for a very long time, and the independent and free-spirited Jewel takes him out to see the real world. With the ultimate destination Rio de Janiero, Blu finds ups and downs in his journey but has a lot to learn from friendship loyalty to love.

Russian trailer of "X-Men: First Class" reveals some new footages!

Still curious about what's "X-Men: First Class" all about? Well, maybe this Russian version of the first trailer will pretty much answer the question. This is indeed a prequel, since it shows the young Erik Lensherr aka Magneto (Michael Fassbender)'s history when he was apart from his parents briefly. We can also watch Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones) screams his power, Beast (Nicholas Hoult) tries to fly the X-Jet, and Havok (Lucas Till) with Professor X (James McAvoy) surrounded by fire. Following the success of comedy superhero movies like "Kick-Ass", James Gunn tried to bring back this hype through his latest feature, "Super". Josh Hutcherson is also in talks to star in "The Hunger Games" as Peeta Mellark

Watchout Alex Pettyfer, seems like you got some competition here. Former child actor Josh Hutcherson is reportedly also contending for Peeta Mellark role in the upcoming page-to-screen adaptation of "The Hunger Games". It has been revealed that Hutcherson already had meetings with Lionsgate about the role, but still, no decision made.

Hutchersoon told Entertainment Weekly that he has even met with Gary Ross, "The Hunger Games" director. However, Hutcherson admitted, "But they're meeting a lot of people right now. One can only dream.". Later he revealed his personal fascination to Peeta Mellark, by saying, "I love Peeta. The character is so much who I am—self deprecating, a people person. And he'd be such a great character to play! Like in the third book? Oh my God."

Just like Ethan Anderson from First Showing said, I personally agree that Hutcherson will be a 'better' choice than Pettyfer. Well, I know that Pettyfer may be 'commercially' winning, as you all can see his face on theatres this month, from the sci-fi action "I Am Number Four" and teen drama "Beastly". Unfortunately he didn't seem to attract the movie critics as both movies failed to top the box office and receptions. In the other hand, Hutcherson is relatively very known in the US. Looking back to his resume, Hutcherson starred in famous acclaimed features such as "The Polar Express", "Little Manhattan", "Zathura: A Space Adventure", "RV", "Bridge to Terabithia", "Journey to the Center of the Earth", and recently the Oscar-nominated "The Kids Are Alright". Even though Pettyfer got the physical attraction, I think Hutcherson will have the best chance.

New trailer of Spike Jonze's latest short film with Arcade Fire, "Scenes from the Suburbs"

Ever since I watched "Being John Malkovich" and this beautiful short film called "I'm Here" (starring Andrew Garfield and Sienna Guillory), I immediately started to admire Spike Jonze, man genius behind the directorial seat. This year Jonze made another short, cooperating with this year's Grammy winning indie rock band Arcade Fire, titled "Scenes from the Suburbs". Check out the cool trailer below:



This short film is originally written by the band members while Jonze directed it. The trailer looks so simple though, but it does depict the gritty real life sci-fi flick. Referring to his previous works like "Adaptation", "Being John Malkovich", or even the "I'm Here" short, we can conclude immediately that Jonze has a thing for any sci-fi material. Andrew Garfield portrays a 'human computer' in "I'm Here", and John Cusack enters a magical box which leads him inside John Malkovich's head. Jonze's idea is rather quirky and unusual but somehow I enjoy it!

"Scenes from the Suburbs" will go straight-to-DVD, but still with an unknown release dates. Anyone of you is excited to watch it?

First official images of Steven Spielberg's "War Horse"

The one and only Steven Spielberg goes epic again in "War Horse"! Adapting Michael Morpurgo's 1982 novel with the same title, "War Horse" tells about a wonderful friendship between Joey, a horse sold into the British army and sent off to serve on the battlefields of France in World War I, and his young owner Albert (played by Jeremy Irvine), who tames and trains him. The movie follows Joey's journey as he moves from one place to another through the war. He may be no human, but he inspires and changes many people's lives, before he finally reaches the No Man's Land. Basically, we will get to see the horrific experience of the first World War through the eyes of this no ordinary horse.

Jake Gyllenhaal travels through time in "Source Code" new clips

There's one action sci-fi movie I've been looking forward to watch which involves technology, conspiracy, and Jake Gyllenhaal. It's "Source Code". From the official synopsis, it tells about a soldier, Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal), who wakes up in someone else's body after a terrible train explosion. He travels back in time for a mission to discover who's the man behind the Chicago train bombing. In his journey, he finds out that he's being involved in a governmental program called 'Source Code', an experiment that enables him to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

This movie premiered yesterday in SXSW Festival, and it's been getting some decent reviews. The Movie Pool wrote, "...the movie itself is a testament to the limitless potential of entertainment value of a retelling in qualified hands.". The Film Stage praised it as an "Hitchcockian mystery with a science fiction edge, and you'll find yourself drawn into the mission" and gave it a B rating. Amy Curtis from We Got This Covered claimed it as "a hard sci-fi, but it's also a touching emotional story", and later praised Gyllenhaal performance for bringing "perfect balance of strength and vulnerability".

Feeling so curious as much as I do? Well, we have to wait until "Source Code" opens worldwide in April 1, 2011. This movie is directed and written by Duncan Jones and Ben Ripley respectively, and also stars Michelle Monaghan, Vera Varmiga, Jeffrey Wright, and Russel Peters.

Here comes the March: the movies you'd love to watch (Part 3)

The third part of March release list is here! From the previous second list, seems like "Battle: Los Angeles" has taken over the top spot of weekly box office, while "Red Riding Hood" comes in third, but unfortunately "Mars Needs Mom" has a rough start. "Jane Eyre" might wasn't a blast on the box office, but it surely received praised and positive reactions from the critics. Not any of these movies have arrived in Indonesia yet, so I can't give you my personal opinion (I'm still doubting if I would still able to watch them though. How sad is that?). OK now let's continue to the list of movies that are going to be released next week!
