"Resident Evil: Begins" is the official title and yes it is a reboot!

Last month I announced that the fifth installment of "Resident Evil" finally got a release date, and that Milla Jovovich will return as the leading character as well as Sienna Guillory who will reprise her role as Jill Valentine. Now the title treatment of this movie is finally released, and that it will be titled "Resident Evil: Begins".

Ian McShane joins "Jack The Giant Killer", Sienna Guillory returns as Jill Valentine in "Resident Evil 5"

Star of the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", Ian McShane, is reportedly joining Bryan Singer's fairy tale-based movie adaptation "Jack The Giant Killer". Re-telling the story of "Jack and the Beanstalk" fairy tale, about a boy named Jack who finds himself in an expedition to save a princess taken hostage by a giant, which threatens the peace truce between human and giants. McShane will play King Brahmwell, the father of the kidnapped princess.

Nicholas Hoult, star of British television series hit "Skins" and upcoming "X-Men: First Class" will play as Jack, the leading role; while Eleanor Tomlinson cast as the princess. Veterans Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy, and John Kassir also set to star in the film.

Meanwhile, the popular video game-to-movie adaptation "Resident Evil" franchise finally gets its main hero back. British actress Sienna Guillory confirmed her return to star again as Jill Valentine in the upcoming "Resident Evil 5". The actress, who's currently pregnant, wrote via her Twitter account, "RE:5 alert! Training begins! I aim to mostly put less in the big hole on the front of my face than comes out of the little one on my arse."

Guillory first appeared in "Resident Evil: Apocalypse", the first sequel of the "Resident Evil" saga, in which she perfectly embodied the physical appearance of Jill Valentine. However, the proportion of Valentine's involvement wasn't as significant as hers in the original game, "Resident Evil: Nemesis", and she didn't even appear in the next installment "Resident Evil: Extinction". Guillory's latest appearance was in "Resident Evil: Afterlife" at the end of the movie. I didn't even realize that it was her, since the hairstyle had changed much -- it was adapted from the 'new' Jill Valentine in "Resident Evil 5" video game in which she dyed her hair blonde. The plot for "Resident Evil 5" is still unknown, but I do really hope that they will bring my favorite character to live, Leon Scott Kennedy!

"Resident Evil 5" gets a release date

With the ending of "Resident Evil: Afterlife" was rather 'hanging' we surely know that there will be a sequel for this movie. Sony's Screen Gems recently announced that the untitled fifth installment, "Resident Evil 5", finally gets a release date for September 14, 2012 just like the previous last three films.

Milla Jovovich will reprise her role as the leading character Alice, with Sienna Guillory (who played Jill Valentine and appeared in the very last minute on "Afterlife") will likely to join her. No news about whether Wentworth Miller and Ali Larter, who played Chris and Claire Redfield respectively, will return.

The "Resident Evil" franchise has grossed over $ 600 million worldwide. Even though this isn't actually a huge number for common Hollywood franchise adapted from the critically-acclaimed video game, the franchise can be deemed as successful due to its low budget. None of the four movies had more than $ 60 million budget, and even though they didn't do well in US box office, they gloomed internationally.

Despite failing to attract critics (the average score of the four previous movies are C), this franchise is probably the most successful video game adaptation ever. "Tomb Raider" starring Angelina Jolie, which was adapted from the game with the same title, came to second, but with only two installments (because Jolie didn't renew her contract). The other adaptations such as "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", "Doom", "House of the Dead", "Alone in the Dark", "Silent Hill", "Street Fighter" series, "Tekken", "The King of Fighter", and others, failed to steal the spot light.

Those video games actually came with storyline already, in which the movie production just had to develop the screenplay and find the good actors and director. But unfortunately, so far they always keep the storyline too cheesy, with only depending on the technology for the special effects. Knowing that many comic book adapted movie like "Spider-Man 2", "X2: X-Men United", and "The Dark Knight" have 'erased' the stereotype of comic book story was rather 'cheesy' and 'unpredictable' with the very serious work of the people inside the production, I really hope there will be a good movie based on video game (I'm not an avid gamer, but I do love to play RPG and fighting games. "Resident Evil" and "Tekken" are probably my most favorite!).
