Just a day ago people were buzzing about Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence was the single frontrunner for the role Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming page-to-screen adaptation "The Hunger Games". But apparently Lionsgate announced that there were actually over 30 actresses tried out for the Katniss role.
The famous names were including "Kick-Ass" and "Let Me In" star Chloe G. Moretz, "True Grit"'s breakout star Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar-nominated Saoirse Ronan, Emma Roberts, "Skins"' former leading actress Kaya Scodelario, Shailene Woodley, and Lyndsy Fonseca. Moretz is the youngest (12 years old) while Fonseca is the oldest (27 years old) actress to try out for 16 years old Katniss.
Even so, the Gary Ross-directed movie version still haven't made a choice of who's going to play Katniss. The production will likely start in May, and the release date is already set: March 23, 2012.
