Jake Gyllenhaal travels through time in "Source Code" new clips

There's one action sci-fi movie I've been looking forward to watch which involves technology, conspiracy, and Jake Gyllenhaal. It's "Source Code". From the official synopsis, it tells about a soldier, Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal), who wakes up in someone else's body after a terrible train explosion. He travels back in time for a mission to discover who's the man behind the Chicago train bombing. In his journey, he finds out that he's being involved in a governmental program called 'Source Code', an experiment that enables him to cross over into another man's identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

As I already gave you the official movie poster and trailer earlier this year, now I present a couple of latest clips from the movie, thanks to Hitfix! Watch them all below:

This movie premiered yesterday in SXSW Festival, and it's been getting some decent reviews. The Movie Pool wrote, "...the movie itself is a testament to the limitless potential of entertainment value of a retelling in qualified hands.". The Film Stage praised it as an "Hitchcockian mystery with a science fiction edge, and you'll find yourself drawn into the mission" and gave it a B rating. Amy Curtis from We Got This Covered claimed it as "a hard sci-fi, but it's also a touching emotional story", and later praised Gyllenhaal performance for bringing "perfect balance of strength and vulnerability".

Feeling so curious as much as I do? Well, we have to wait until "Source Code" opens worldwide in April 1, 2011. This movie is directed and written by Duncan Jones and Ben Ripley respectively, and also stars Michelle Monaghan, Vera Varmiga, Jeffrey Wright, and Russel Peters.

New male lead for "The Bourne Legacy" is on search

The fourth installment of "Bourne" franchise is on the way. Tony Gilroy, the writer and director of the upcoming "The Bourne Legacy" is reportedly searching for a new male lead. It's not that Jason Bourne (the leading character from the previous trilogy played by Matt Damon) will be replaced — but the new lead will likely be the new main focus.

According to Variety, Gilroy puts an eye on three famous names: Garrett Hedlund, who dazzled the cinema last year in "Tron: Legacy" and "Country Strong", the Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, and the former "Spider-Man" Tobey Maguire.

The production of this movie itself will begin this spring, soon after they find the leading man. It is to be released in August 3, 2012.

The Hottest Stars are on the Vanity Fair's Hollywood Issue cover

Vanity Fair's March Hollywood Issue cover: too hot to be true!
You might have seen the super hot cover of Vanity Fair's next month Hollywood Issue, which I really like! All of the people on the covers are my favorites, and I'm so happy that they have received such amazing reception last year, and will shine on again this year. Let's check out each actor's achievement and upcoming projects from left to right (special extended introduction for the four main actors on the cover)!

Ryan Reynolds. Named as Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine last year, he's also probably an actor with the sexiest career. Movie goers started to recognize him more since 2009, where he appeared in four famous hits, from an indie feature "Adventureland", the summer blockbuster "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" where he played one of the X-heroes Deadpool, a romantic-comedy "The Proposal" alongside Sandra Bullock, and a critically-acclaimed indie drama "Paper Man". In 2010 he appeared in a thrilling movie "Buried", in which he had to deal with claustrophobic death trap while he is buried alive inside a coffin. He was cast as one of the most famous DC Comics character Green Lantern which will come out this summer, and a comedy "The Change Up" with Jason Bateman. He is currently signed for four projects, "RIPD", "The Croods", "Most Wanted", and "Safe House", and announced to star in X-Men's spin-off about "Deadpool" in 2012. Way to go, Ryan!

Jake Gyllenhaal. The Academy Award nominated actor (thanks to "Brokeback Mountain") was up for Golden Globe Awards earlier this year for his role in "Love and Other Drugs" (which eventually went to Paul Giamatti in "Barney's Vision"). He appeared in last year's summer blockbuster "Prince of Persia" as the iconic hero Prince Dastan. The Maggie Gyllenhaal's younger brother won't stop pleasing his loyal audience, by starring in upcoming sci-fi thriller "Source Code", alongside Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan, and later a comedy titled "Nailed" with Jessica Biel, James Marsden, and Catherine Keener. Ever since he starred in the mystery "Donnie Darko", his career never stop climbing. "The Day After Tomorrow", "Jarhead", and "Zodiac" in which he starred as the leading role were all hits. He was back then rumored to replace Tobey Maguire for "Spider-Man", and although it didn't happen, he and Tobey starred in 2009's drama "Brothers" (as brothers, of course) with Natalie Portman and it received many positive receptions from movie critics. Looking forward for new Gyllenhaal movies!

Anne Hathaway. For me, she'll always be the "Princess Amelia of Genovia". "Princess Diaries" was the first movie where I caught Anne for the first time, and I liked her immediately. She's likeable, funny, and witty, there's no reason to hate her. From "Bride Wars" to "The Devil Wears Prada", seems like she really fits in playing any role she wants. But she proved that she is also capable in doing dramatic roles, by getting an Academy Award nomination for her role in "Rachel Getting Married". She starred in 'serious' movies like "Havoc" (with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as well — and there was a LOT of nudity, I was kinda shocked that Anne was willing to star in this kind of movie!) and "Brokeback Mountain" (as Jake Gyllenhaal's wife). And just like Gyllenhaal, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for "Love and Other Drugs" in which she starred with Gyllenhaal, again. She is currently signed to play Batman's famous lover/enemy Catwoman in upcoming "The Dark Knight Rises", and she is set to host the Oscars this month with the guy who's on her right...

James Franco. Forget about Harry Osborn the Spider-Man's frienemy, the UCLA attendee has been stepping into the more mature and classier role. Remember his great portrayal of Harvey Milk's gay-lover Scott Smith in "Milk" with Sean Penn? Well yes, I'm talking about a true talent. In 2010 he appeared in five movies; "Date Night", "Howl", a leading role in "William Vincent", "Eat Pray Love", and the movie which made him receive an Oscar nomination this year, "127 Hours". More invasion of James Franco this year, again with five movies; "Your Highness", "Rise of the Apes", "The Broken Tower", "Lovelace", and "The Iceman". Well I don't think the host will win the Oscar (afterall, people are already rooting for Colin Firth in "The King's Speech"), but this is an inevitable achievement for the actor who's currently enrolling as a college student. Watching he and Anne host the Oscar will be lovely!

The "Source Code" poster finally comes out!

Thanks to Yahoo! Movies, we now have the official poster of "Source Code", as released by Summit Entertainment. It's so exciting because I miss watching Jake Gyllenhaal in an action movie!

Here's a short description of "Source Code" from its Yahoo! Movies page:

Movie Review: "Prince of Persia"

Ever since I watched the movie trailer, I was really excited to see this movie. It's not just because of Jake Gyllenhaal, but it also has historical background within it (you know I'm an epic movie freak ;-p) and the special effects looks promising.

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is based on a video game with the same title, and since I don't play the game I really had no idea about the storyline. When I asked my brother, who's a video game geek, he just told me, "The game is quite sadistic, you jump from rooftop to rooftop beating the enemies with two big daggers and blood sprayed everywhere."

Hmmm... I think that was interesting, because this movie is actually a Walt Disney production. Which means, it's usually rated G or PG-13, and we can't expect PG-13 movies to be bloody and brutal. But thankfully, it's Mike Newell and Jerry Bruckheimer who takes the director and producer seat respectively, so I was really sure that the movie won't be 100% same to the video game.

The storyline tells about Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal), an adopted son of the King Sharaman (Ronald Pickup), the Persian King, who is accused to kill the King by giving him an acid-poisoned robe. Dastan is the King's favorite son, for having a great fighting skill and battle strategy. One day, Dastan's uncle Nizam (Ben Kingsley) delivers a report that Alamut, a sacred city near the kingdom, has a deadly weapon made to destroy the Persian empire. The kingdom soon prepare a strategy to attack the city, with Dastan and his brothers Garsiv (Toby Kebbell) and Tus (Richard Coyle) as the leaders.

During the battle in Alamut, Dastan takes down one of the Alamut warrior who brings a 'fancy' dagger. Dastan then takes the dagger for himself, and the Persian army successfully occupy the city. Tus meets Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton), the leader of Alamut, asking her to be a part of Persia in a friendly relationship. Tamina isn't being friendly at first, but when she sees Dastan and the 'fancy' dagger hanging on his waist, she reluctantly accept Tus' request.

To celebrate the victory, Dastan and his brothers plan to give their father a holy robe for prayer. And when the King wears it, he soon falls down while his body is burning inside. Anyone who touches the robe and try to take it off of the King have their hands burnt also. Then the King is dead, and everyone accuses Dastan for killing him, because it was him who put on the robe to the King.

Dastan runs away from the kingdom, along with Tamina, and this is where their journey begins. Dastan soon finds out about the hidden power of the 'fancy' dagger -- and since now we all know that it's not a usual dagger, I won't call it 'fancy' dagger anymore, it's now just 'dagger' -- it can turn back the time. This dagger has a small slot to fulfill with sands, but not for usual sands we can find in the dessert.

Dastan plans to use the dagger to clean up his name in front of Persian people, and tries to reach his uncle Nizam to tell the truth. During his father's funeral, Dastan secretly meets up with Nizam, only to find out that the dagger has been replaced by a chain weapon by Tamina. At the same time Dastan notices Nizam's burnt hands, which makes him suspicious because he remembers that Nizam didn't touch the King's robe at all during the celebration. Dastan finds out that Nizam was the one who poisoned his father's robe, and runs away to find Tamina and the dagger.

Nizam goes to the Hassansin's lair, the elite and most well-trained army in Persia. If you have watched 300, Hassansin might remind you to the Immortals. They dress in black, cold, scary, mysterious, and fast to kill. Nizam tells the Hassansin leader (Gísli Örn Garðarsson) that Dastan has the dagger, and they have to kill him and bring back the dagger to Nizam. Dastan is now a fugitive not just for the Persian army, but also for Hassansins.

And then I'm sure you'll know the rest. You know where the story will lead you. And I won't give any spoilers either. Let's go straight to the review. This movie has something to tell, it does have a clear storyline. It's about trust, legacy, brotherhood. There's drama within the Persian kingdom family, where Dastan isn't actually the real blood, but he's always been the King's favorite. And then there's another family member whose thirst of power, he's willing to do anything to take over the government.

But unfortunately the main characters are not as appealing as the minors. Dastan for example, is a physically perfect portray for a Persian prince, but he doesn't have the 'charisma' and 'uniqueness'. He's the King's favorite, he should have something different from his other brothers (other than the great fighting skill), but he turns out to be insecure and confused all the time. At the beginning to the middle of the movie I thought he's the strong, careless and 'I-don't-give-a-damn' type of guy. But for some reason he becomes more mellow (read: weaker). In short, Dastan isn't as interesting as I thought he would be.

In contrary, the minor characters are totally cool. Let's take Sheik Amar for example. Looking at that character, I really had no idea if it was Alfred Molina. He totally changes himself into this materialistic and self-centered ostricht owner. His appearance is really refreshing and brings fun comedy. Nizam's character is also interesting. Ben Kingsley looks reeeally vicious! Just look at his eyes and you'll know he's the bad guy. Tha Hassansins are also cool, the makeup really shows that they are cold deadly assassins.

Special effect is amazing I must say. Seeing the whole Persian country swept away by the sandstorm is WOW. The scene where Dastan slides away inside the ruining temple and jump off by doing backflip was 'da bomb'!! And the fighting scenes are all cool. Bloods and stabbings are around but it's just a few.

Even so, this movie does give me an experience. By experience I mean, I didn't regret buying the ticket and sat down inside the theatre for two hours. I'm sure it will refresh you up. It's not that good, but just like what I said in the most movies I've reviewed, it's entertaining. 6,5 out of 10.
