Jennifer Lawrence is one step closer to seal "The Hunger Games" deal as Katniss Everdeen

After announcing the names who tried out for Katniss Everdeen role, seems like Lionsgate finally found the front-runner. Jennifer Lawrence, who actually has been in talks to take over the role, is reportedly just a step closer to sign in for this project, according to Deadline.

If all of this is true, then the 20 years old actress who was nominated for Oscar this year will play 16 years old Katniss Everdeen, the main heroine of "The Hunger Games", which the movie version will be released in March 23, 2012 with Gary Ross and Billy Ray as the director and script writer respectively. Katniss volunteers to participate in an annual televised championship in which she has to fight over 23 teenagers from 12 districts in futuristic North America. Her twelve years old sister, Prim, is actually the one chosen to fight, but to protect her family she is willing to do so. At the competition, she meets and falls in love with Peeta Mellark, a boy whom she furtherly have an adventure with.

The studio is currently also looking for a young actor to play the role Peeta, and that Alex Pettyfer has been officially approached to star. There's still no confirmation from both Pettyfer and Lionsgate about this, but knowing that the shooting will begin shortly in a couple of months, I'm sure we all expect an official announcement soon.
