The wait is over, people! Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth are now set to play Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne in "The Hunger Games" movie adaptation! They will join Jennifer Lawrence who was initially cast as Katniss Everdeen the main leading role. Thus the movie production will likely begin shortly to fulfill its March 23, 2012 release date.
As previously written here, Hutcherson and Hemsworth were the top frontrunners for this role and it wasn't any joke afterall. Both beat out other top contenders which were favorited by The Hunger Games fans themselves, with the likes of Hunter Parrish of "Weeds" and Drew Roy for Peeta and Gale role respectively.
According to The Mockingjay, "The Hunger Games" will start filming in Wilmington, North Carolina on May 23 through August 23, 2011. To avoid paparazzi and others off the trail, they will use 'Artemis' as the working title. LOL but nice choice though.
Even so, Lionsgate still have to cast other pivotal roles from the book, including Katniss' little sister Prim, who is originally chosen to play in the Hunger Games but voluntarily replaced by Katniss for she is too young. The game itself is quite dreadful, where the government choose 24 random young people to fight to death until they find the winner.
As for Hutcherson and Hemsworth, well they are not new in this industry. Hutcherson has been starring in numerous movies as leading roles, "Zathura: The Space Adventure" and "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" are probably the most memorable one. He also starred in this year's Oscar nominated movie "The Kids Are Alright". He's pretty nice for Peeta, I think, but I still can't imagine to see him in blonde hair. While Hemsworth was more recognized as he played lead opposite Miley Cyrus in "The Last Song". I think "The Hunger Games" will be the first big break for Hemsworth! (FYI, for those who didn't know, he is the brother of Chris Hemsworth of "Thor".)
Overall, congratulations to both actors for winning the roles!
