Ryan Reynolds. Named as Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine last year, he's also probably an actor with the sexiest career. Movie goers started to recognize him more since 2009, where he appeared in four famous hits, from an indie feature "Adventureland", the summer blockbuster "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" where he played one of the X-heroes Deadpool, a romantic-comedy "The Proposal" alongside Sandra Bullock, and a critically-acclaimed indie drama "Paper Man". In 2010 he appeared in a thrilling movie "Buried", in which he had to deal with claustrophobic death trap while he is buried alive inside a coffin. He was cast as one of the most famous DC Comics character Green Lantern which will come out this summer, and a comedy "The Change Up" with Jason Bateman. He is currently signed for four projects, "RIPD", "The Croods", "Most Wanted", and "Safe House", and announced to star in X-Men's spin-off about "Deadpool" in 2012. Way to go, Ryan!
Jake Gyllenhaal. The Academy Award nominated actor (thanks to "Brokeback Mountain") was up for Golden Globe Awards earlier this year for his role in "Love and Other Drugs" (which eventually went to Paul Giamatti in "Barney's Vision"). He appeared in last year's summer blockbuster "Prince of Persia" as the iconic hero Prince Dastan. The Maggie Gyllenhaal's younger brother won't stop pleasing his loyal audience, by starring in upcoming sci-fi thriller "Source Code", alongside Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan, and later a comedy titled "Nailed" with Jessica Biel, James Marsden, and Catherine Keener. Ever since he starred in the mystery "Donnie Darko", his career never stop climbing. "The Day After Tomorrow", "Jarhead", and "Zodiac" in which he starred as the leading role were all hits. He was back then rumored to replace Tobey Maguire for "Spider-Man", and although it didn't happen, he and Tobey starred in 2009's drama "Brothers" (as brothers, of course) with Natalie Portman and it received many positive receptions from movie critics. Looking forward for new Gyllenhaal movies!
Anne Hathaway. For me, she'll always be the "Princess Amelia of Genovia". "Princess Diaries" was the first movie where I caught Anne for the first time, and I liked her immediately. She's likeable, funny, and witty, there's no reason to hate her. From "Bride Wars" to "The Devil Wears Prada", seems like she really fits in playing any role she wants. But she proved that she is also capable in doing dramatic roles, by getting an Academy Award nomination for her role in "Rachel Getting Married". She starred in 'serious' movies like "Havoc" (with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as well — and there was a LOT of nudity, I was kinda shocked that Anne was willing to star in this kind of movie!) and "Brokeback Mountain" (as Jake Gyllenhaal's wife). And just like Gyllenhaal, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for "Love and Other Drugs" in which she starred with Gyllenhaal, again. She is currently signed to play Batman's famous lover/enemy Catwoman in upcoming "The Dark Knight Rises", and she is set to host the Oscars this month with the guy who's on her right...
James Franco. Forget about Harry Osborn the Spider-Man's frienemy, the UCLA attendee has been stepping into the more mature and classier role. Remember his great portrayal of Harvey Milk's gay-lover Scott Smith in "Milk" with Sean Penn? Well yes, I'm talking about a true talent. In 2010 he appeared in five movies; "Date Night", "Howl", a leading role in "William Vincent", "Eat Pray Love", and the movie which made him receive an Oscar nomination this year, "127 Hours". More invasion of James Franco this year, again with five movies; "Your Highness", "Rise of the Apes", "The Broken Tower", "Lovelace", and "The Iceman". Well I don't think the host will win the Oscar (afterall, people are already rooting for Colin Firth in "The King's Speech"), but this is an inevitable achievement for the actor who's currently enrolling as a college student. Watching he and Anne host the Oscar will be lovely!
Jennifer Lawrence is nominated for Best Actress in this year's Oscar for her role in "Winter's Bone". I watched this movie and was blown away by her performance — it was deep and real. Jennifer will appear in the X-Men reboot "X-Men: First Class", as Raven Darkholme aka Mystique, which previously played by Rebecca Romijn. Next to her is Anthony Mackie, who's widely recognized in "The Hurt Locker", and probably DJ Caruso's "Eagle Eye". This year he'll appear in "The Adjustment Bureau", "Bolden!", and "Reel Steel". His upcoming project is a thriller "Man on a Ledge" alongside "Avatar"'s leading actor Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, and Jamie Bell.
The girl who's named by Maxim as Sexiest Woman in the World, Olivia Wilde, was a scene-stealer in last year's winter hit "Tron: Legacy". She was famous of her television roles, such as Alex in "The OC" and Dr. Remy in "House", but now she 'expanded' her fame to the silver screen. Olivia stars alongside Daniel Craig in this year-hit-to-be "Cowboys and Aliens". Sitting next to her is the actor who played as Mark Zuckerberg in this year's Golden Globe's Best Picture "The Social Network", Jesse Eisenberg. He is one of the Oscar contender for Best Actor (competing against James Franco as well), and has been nominated for the same category in numerous award shows. Jesse 'lends' his voice in this spring's animated movie "Rio" with Anne Hathaway. He used to be an 'indie darling' but now he's getting use to play in more major movie roles. And I know he will pull it off!
Remember the rather-annoying-cute girl in "That 70's Show"? She's all grown up and now a movie star! Mila Kunis has come back to the screen since starring in last year's comedy hit "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", and finally amazed us by playing the antagonist in psychological thriller "Black Swan" opposite Natalie Portman. She didn't make it to the Oscar nominations, but her performance was simply unforgettable. She is now one of the strongest candidate to play Superman's love interest Lois Lane in upcoming Zack Snyder's remake "Man of Steel". The handsome guy sitting besides her is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, another talented LA native who stole our heart in "500 Days of Summer". He has a long-lasting career I must say, if you still remember, he also starred in 1990's hit "10 Things I Hate About You". The former NYU student back on the big screen last year in the breath-taking science fiction "Inception" (one of the BEST last year), and now is in talks to play The Riddler in Nolan's Batman sequel "The Dark Knight Rises". Seriously, I don't mind seeing Joseph in every Nolan's production.
And then... Andrew Garfield. I'm not going to write more about him here because he'll be my "In Profile" next month, so just wait for the very details of him and his upcoming projects in the feature next month. Bottomline, I LOVE THIS GUY SO MUCH, period. Next is the gorgeous woman who's feeding the cute lion cub, Rashida Jones. She starred in "The Social Network" as Zuckerberg's attorney assistant, and the former "The Office" actress starred in this year's Sundance hit "My Idiot Brother". More to come from Rashida with three titles this year, "Friends With Benefits", "The Big Year", and "The Muppets".
Garrett Hedlund made a huge come back this year in "Tron: Legacy" as Jeff Bridges' son and heir of the Tron world. I first saw Garrett in "Four Brothers", recognized him as the handsomest brother of them all (but then my Dad mocked me "Your handsome one died in that movie,"). He was also in book-adapted epic movie "Eragon" and drama "Georgia Rule", even though in small roles. Earlier this year he starred in musical movie "Country Strong" alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Leighton Meester (ehm, his current rumored girlfriend — which I approve!). And last but not least, next to Garrett is the Swedish rising star Naomi Rapace. She starred in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy as the leading lady Lisbeth Salander, and received highly appreciative critics. She is now to play Ridley Scott's prequel of "Alien", "Prometheus", and is filming the sequel of 2009's "Sherlock Holmes", which is set to release this year.
